Planting grape vines

Bare root stock

Start planting as soon as the soil can be worked (end of Apr. beginning of May). After arrival, the vines need to be kept in a cool place (above 4°C) and the roots kept moist at all times.
Before planting, prune back the one year old shoot to two strong buds (cut a few millimetres above a bud), and the roots to 10-15cm. Place the vine in the planting hole, the buds just above soil level, spread the roots, and cover them with 10 cm of moist soil resulted from the digging of the hole. Tamp well to assure good root-soil contact. Fill the planting hole with soil and cover the entire vine with loose soil (few centimetres above the last bud). You may or may not water after planting, but during the summer you should water if there is not enough moisture in the soil.

Potted stock

Planting can start early in May and continue even in July. Until planting keep the vines in a shaded area and the pots moist all the time.
Place the potted vine in the planting hole, this year growth just above soil level (even lower doesn’t hurt). Fill half the hole with soil, tamp gently, fill the hole and tamp again. We recommend watering the vines after planting. During growing season keep watering as required.
